How we came about
Rockfield Business Brokerage was established with a singular focus: to elevate the standard of business sales in New Zealand. After decades at the helm of the industry's largest corporate brokerages, founders Aaron Toresen and Martin Plom recognised a critical gap in the market. Business owners navigating the most consequential transactions of their lives didn't just need a listing agency; they needed true advisory, uncompromising discretion, and a highly strategic approach to the market.
Rockfield was created to serve the nuanced needs of privately held businesses, it is built on the belief that a successful exit is orchestrated, not left to chance. We deliberately stepped away from volume-based, transactional models to create a bespoke firm where high-value expertise and meticulous preparation drive every outcome.
The founders
Aaron Toresen — Founder & Director
With over 25 years of experience in business brokerage and M&A, Aaron brings a top-tier executive perspective to every engagement. As the former Founder and Managing Director of a major international business brokerage network, he understands the mechanics of the market at the highest operational level. Aaron's expertise lies in structuring complex deals and ensuring that business owners receive representation that is strategic, defensible, and sharply focused on protecting their legacy.
Martin Plom — Founder & Director
Martin pairs elite corporate acumen with genuine entrepreneurial experience. As a qualified Chartered Accountant, his career spans senior leadership roles, including General Manager at Fonterra Ingredients NZ and President of Fletcher Forests USA. Crucially, Martin has stood in the shoes of the business owner — having bought, integrated, and successfully sold his own manufacturing business for a significant premium. Now one of New Zealand's most heavily decorated brokers — including being named REINZ Business Broker Salesperson of the Year — Martin specialises in high-value enterprise sales, bringing analytical precision and a no-nonsense approach to the negotiating table.
